Editing embedded text

I am running Visio 2003 sp2. I have a visio prepared two years ago by a peer
who is no long with the company. When I right click on the text field to
cut, I get the following "Shape protection and/or layer properties prevent
compelte execution of this command". I don't see any shape protection. I
went to layer properties. It is not locked. Any suggestion?
