Editing PHP in FrontPage

I have a website programmed in PHP. In options in FrontPage I changed things
to make PHP a default and things work better now, but not all, for example
links between pages I can’t see. Does anyone have experience in this
unorthodox problem? I have a FrontPage 2003

sometimes things that are written to the page by a server side scripting
language (not just PHP) won't render in the design view.

are your links "normal" links written in HTML or are they written to the
page by an "echo" statement or some conditional situation?
