Editing problem

I am using Microsoft office professional 2007. This problem has shown up in the last couple of days. When I select text in a document, I don't see the usual shading. Can somebody help?

I think you have got both Shadings through Text Highlighter as well as Shading through Borders and Shading applied. If you remove Shading through Text Highlighter, it should revert back to normal shading.
