Editing project offline then published

R

Rachel

I m trying to edit my project offline (this project was
ever published into the project server) and then later
saved and published back to the server.

However the error shows that I could not overwrite the
project with the same file and was requested to save as a
different filename. Why is this so ?? Isn't there a
feature like what PDA does to synchronise data.

Pls advise. Thanks
Rachel

I suspect your problem is caused by the fact that you did not save your file
properly as an offline file. Did you click File - Save As - Save as File,
and then save it as an .mpp file on your hard drive? If so, you did it
wrong. Instead of saving your project as an offline file, you actually
saved it as a non-enterprise project.

To save a file in offline mode so that you can work on a project while away
from your corporate network, you need to click File - Save Offline. This
will save a working copy of the file on your hard drive, which you can edit
as you wish in any manner that doesn't need enterprise features. When you
return to your office and log back into Project Server, you can "sycn up"
the offline file with the file in the database (like what a PDA does) by
clicking File - Save Online.

In regards to solving your current problem, I am assuming that no one else
changed the original project that is saved in the Project Server database
while you were working with your non-enterprise project. First, you will
need to ask your Project Server administrator to delete your project from
the Project Server database. Once done, you will then need to import your
non-enterprise project back into the database using the Import Project to
Enterprise Wizard (Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to
Enterprise). Hope this helps.
