Editing Templates

Can anyone tell me how to access, edit, and save an existing template for
Project Server 2003?

Click File - New, click the "On my computer" link in the New Project
sidepane, click the Enterprise Templates tab, select the template you want
to edit, and then click the OK button. Edit the template as you wish.
Click File - Save As. In the Save to Project Server dialog, click the Type
pick list and select the "Template" option. In the Name field, enter the
exact same name for the template (look at the title bar at the top of the
Microsoft Project application window and you can see the name) and then
click the Save button. When prompted in the warning dialog, click the OK
button to overwrite the existing template. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Dale. Guess I'm just trying to make this harder than it has to be -
that was way too easy. Appreciate the help.

It was easy, but not obvious by any means. You are more than welcome for
the help, my friend! :)

I am on Project Server 2003
On the flip side of the prior question: I (as an Admin) would like to lock
down an enterprise template so no one can update it. Any hints?

BTW...I am a fan of the books..I have the 2003 Admin PMO book and just got
the Admin 2007 guide...got a bit thicker, but that is good, there is more to
know.

Your only option is to set the Save Project Template permission to Not
Allowed (neither Allow or Deny is selected) in the Global Permissions grid.
This will prevent your PM's from editing existing enterprise project
templates, and it will also prevent them from saving NEW enterprise
templates as well. Hope this helps. And thanks for the kind comments about
the new book! :)
