Editing text within a cell

I'm new to the Mac community. Excel 2008 is my first non-Windows version of Excel. I'm used to seeing the text that I'm entering or have entered in a text-box at the top of my Excel screen, and that is the way that it was during my first few days of use. Now, however, it has disappeared and I can't seem to bring it back. As a result, the only method now available to me for editing the contents of a cell is to start over completely. How do I bring back the display of my active cell, with full editing capability?

In Windows 2003, what I think you're after is View -> Toolbars ->
Review. Try looking for something similar in Mac. (Sorry, I'm not at
my Mac at the moment, so can't be 100% precise).

You wouldn't have to "start over completely" anyway, as you can select
a cell and press control-U to edit what's already there in the cell
itself.

Hope this helps.

Look in Excel options and make sure edit directly in cell is turned on.
Also, you probably mean the formula bar, look in the view menu and check it.
