editing the data table in a chart

Is it possible to edit the data in a data table? I would like to add
additional information in the grid that isn't tied to the information I
created the chart from.

No, the data table is back end information (displays info from somewhere
else). If you want to add comments/additional info, I suggest using a text
box. You can always align them to give the appearance of being part of the
data table.
