Editing using delete or backspace

Have a customer that randomly cannot use delete or
backspace to delete text in documents have been emailed
to her and require editing. Further through the same
document these features work fine. It is not necessarily
both of them not functioning at the same time. Any clues?

Generally speaking, if Backspace doesn't work, it's because you don't have
"Typing replaces selection" checked on the Edit tab of Tools | Options. When
Delete doesn't work it's because you're getting a prompt in the status bar
asking you to confirm the deletion. This is caused by having one or both of
the WordPerfect options checked on the General tab of Tools | Options. But
either of these problems would be seen consistently, so I can't account for
the randomness you describe unless (a) the customer is trying to delete a
field (Word is a little balkier about this) or (b) the document (or some
portion of it) is protected in some way.
