Editing Web sites on the server

D

Debbie

I am a webmaster and have been editing my site for several
years directly on the server. I access the web site by
opening it and then chosing edit with Front page from the
file menu. I got a new computer and loaded Front Page
program and now the edit with Front Page does not appear
in the file menu of Explorer. I can access the site from
withing Front Page by opening it but I can't launch Front
Page and edit the site in the browser. Anybody know what
I need to do. Funny how you forget how you did something
when you haven't done it for a long time. Thanks for any
help you can give me. Debbie

You *need* to edit from FP, not the browser.

Editing a page only by whatever means really ticksoff FP. Don't do it! Always open FP/WEB.
In my opinion, others will agree, it's best to edit from your local disk based web and publish to the server. That way you will always have a backup. The odds of your server and local going down at the same time are......

Really? I thought it opened only the page the browser was viewing?

| Hi Debbie,
|
| First, both Tom and wp are incorrect as using the File | Edit with Microsoft Office FrontPage does open the web site and the web.
|
| Does your Tools | Internet Options | Programs have MS FP selected for editing?

If the server has the FP SE it will open the Web in FP (if you have log in rights), otherwise it will open just the page
