dnepon said:I have tried that. That is usually when the image corrupts. Should I
convert if before I alter it? These are scans of 3'X4' black and white
documents ( schematic drawings, for example.) They work fine with other
software, but out IT has removed Gimp and Picassa from our computers
because
they don't support it. Paint.net, which they offered, was a worse case of
trouble. ( apparently because of the conversion from 1 bit to 32 bit)

dnepon said:I am scanning large engineering drawings, into a tiff file. I am usually
adjusting the mid-tones ( B&W) and sometimes cropping out extra space
around
the image introduced by the scanner. With Paint.net, the image just fails
to
open. Their is some microsoft knowledge base articles about that as a
known
problem, having to do with the 1 to 32 bit conversion.
I am limited to Microsoft products because that is what IT supports. This
worked fine with GIMP and even with Picassa.
I don't suspect the video card, because I have used two different
computers
and had the same error. One an HP with a big memory card, the other a
Dell.

dnepon said:I can open a document, but there are no edit tools available. I need to
adjust the image so that lines get darker, usually by adjusting the

works
well in Office works well, but when I save it reverts back to the

and/or corrupts the original.
