Effect of initial notebook size on indexing problems

Are you better off with small notebooks or large notebooks initially, as
far as avoiding indexing problems, in particular, the spontaneous
cessation of indexing. I understand the cause of this problem is a failure
to recognize notebooks as being unindexed. Is it the case, I wonder, that
people who experience this problem are those who have imported large
notebooks. Or does anyone have impressions on whether the size of
notebooks imported is a factor.

I have the answer to this, at least on my system. Indexing worked when I
imported no notebooks. When I imported a couple more that I am currently
using, it continues to work.
