Effects Problem

A presentation with effects works only when the file is opened by
first opening PowerPoint, going to files, open, and then opening the
file. At this point the tabs Outline and Slides is on the left side.

If the file is opened via double click with windows explorer by
finding the file in its subdirectory, the Slides tab is missing when
the presentation opens and the special effects don't work.

Seems to be a problem on my computer and not on other computers. I run
Office 2003 running under XP Home SP2.

Any suggestions??

I was delaying doing that unless it was an obvious route to a fix...I
suspected it was. I updated via a borrowed disk I no longer have. I
have the original disks...but with dialup, if it isn't on a disk in
hand, I don't do it unless I have to. I have the original disk, which
is usually asked for during the "repair". I have had these "reset" the
program, so I need the update disks at some point to get back to where
I was.

So, there I am...going to a reset and will have to find the update
disks somewhere again. God, I hate dialup.

Thanks for the guidance.

Do you have more than one version of PPT installed. There is a common
problem where launching by double-clicking opening the older PPT 2000. Go
under HELP and ABOUT POWERPOINT to verify what version is running.
