eliminating page number 1 in header

S

Steve Russell

How can I get my headers to show page numbers, starting with number 2 on
page 2, and avoid a page number on page 1?

I have read and reread the help guide and tried using a continuous section
break after page 1. This is in a document that uses mirror margins for
printing a booklet, so is that part of my trouble?

Thanks for any help.

If you don't have anything else in the header/footer where you're putting
the page number, this is an ideal place to use Insert | Page Numbers. Just
clear the check box for "Show number on first page" and choose Outside as
the location for the page number.

If you're putting the page number in a header/footer with other text, you
still don't need a section break. Check the boxes for "Different first page"
and "Different odd and even" on the Layout tab of Page Setup. This gives you
three separate headers/footers. You leave the First Page Header/Footer
empty, then put your page number in the appropriate place in the Odd Page
Header/Footer and Even Page Header/Footer.
