Missing FrontPage 98

I have two general questions on FrontPage XP. Whenever I
copy tables from Word or Excel and paste into FrontPage,
I get pages of unnecessary HTML tags, which makes editing
tables frustrating as well as time consuming. Is there a
way to prevent this?

Also, is there a way to import ClipArt without using
vector paths? Aligning Clipart within tables just sucks
now. 98 didn't give me nearly as many headaches.

Not a FrontPage issue really.
Word and Excel weren't designed
to create tables for use in html pages.

One way is to:

1. Paste your Word or Excel table into a programming
editor.
2. Change all tabs to some character that doesn't
appear in the data.
3. Copy the changed data and paste it into FrontPage.
4. Select the pasted data, choose Convert from the Tables,
and separate text based on teh character you chose in
step 2.

Alternatively, I've written a FrontPage macro that cleans
up most of the oddball HTML. You can download this from:

You'll need to self-register.

When you add clipart in FrontPage, it converts vector art
to GIF or JPEG at the time you save the page.

Okay, but why is it that only FrontPage versions 2000 and
greater have the issue then?

What is the best way to use ClipArt then? I am not able
to insert the image directly into a cell anymore, plus it
seems to float wherever it pleases. I will see it in one
spot in design view and find it somewhere totally
different after publishing.

Well, you:

1. Set the insertion point where you want the picture to appear.
2. Choose Insert, Picture, Clip Art.
3. Find a picture you like.
4. Right-click the picture and choose Insert (this varies a bit by
version).

However, I bet this (or the equivalent) is what you already doing

The business about a picture "floating wherever it pleases" isn't
unique to Clip Art; it happens with all kinds of objects when you drag
them into position using the mouse, or set their positions using exact
x-y coordinates.

This invokes a feature called absolute positioning, which would be a
wonderful thing except that:

o Different browsers interpret the positioning commands differently.

o If you position only some of the objects on your page, the ones
you don't position will move around, and then the ones you *do*
position won't be in the right place anymore.

The answer is to position objects indirectly: for example, by sizing
the table cells in which they appear.
