Email, Docs, Workbooks open sometimes in half pane

I have a user who is a power user of Outlook, Excel, and Word. She is having
a problem with email, docs, and workbooks opening in half a pane window
instead of full size window. You open the doc and it is in half pane, close
it and re-open it and it appears full pane. It does it about 10% or less of
the time. It can be an emila she just created and saved, when it is opend
again it appears again half pane, close it and re-open it and full pane. Has
any one every experinced this?
