Email getting stuck in Outbox

P

Paul Yanakakis

Using MS Outlook 2003, Comcast.net is my ISP and I have
McAfee Personal Firewall plus installed on my Dell XP.

Looking for assistance as my emails with pic's and normal
outgoing emails are getting stuck in the outbox file and
it is continuing to try to send it then I get a "Potential
Worm Activity Detected pop-up from McAfee. The attachments
are less than 2mg too.

Please help... Thanks... Paul

The first thing you should do is disable whatever McAfee if doing to
integrate it with your email, particularly the outgoing mail. It doesn't
make you any less safe, because the files on your PC have already been
scanned by your AV, so checking your outbound mail again is a waste of time
and can lead to problems if the interaction with Outlook and the AV program
take too long.

Second, you should check for mail only every 10 to 15 minutes. Reducing the
send/receive interval too far can cause outlook to begin it next
send/receive cycle before the previous one is complete, causing messages to
stay in your Outbox and sometimes still be sent over and over again to your
recipients.

Third, you should lengthen your server timeout period. A short period can
cause a disconnect between Outlook and your server before the message
transmission is complete, also causing mail to get stuck in your Outbox.
