when i create an email address in the text of an email i send to recipients (using PCs), the link shows as a weblink rather than an email when the PC user clicks on it. i create the link by typing the email address, underlining it and selecting blue font, and sending in HTML format. am i doing something wrong or is there an incompatibility between Entourage and Outlook. weblinks seem to work fine.

Hi Dave,

Entourage does not allow you to do this. However, with Entourage configured
as your default e-mail application, you can write a message in Word, create
masked hyperlinks and, when you're done, click on File>Send To>Mail
Recipient (as HTML). This will create a message in Entourage that maintains
as much of Word's formatting as possible. Note that you cannot edit this
message in Entourage anymore, and that it is not possible to attach files to
such a message.

this is interesting. it works fine on my MAC. if i insert an email address, underline and change the font to blue, it recognizes it as an email address and when i click on it, it opens a new email. Outlook recognizes an email address and automatically makes it a link.

Hi Dave,

many e-mail applications can detect e-mail addresses automatically. You
don't even have to underline them or change their colour; the application
will recognise the text before and after the @-sign and highlight it
accordingly. There are some cases in which this doesn't work, but you can
always add the text "mailto:" (without the quotation marks) in front of the
actual e-mail address; that should work all the time.

if i insert an email address, underline and change the font to blue,

This is absolutely not necessary!! Create a URL in a message and save it as
draft. Now you will see the link as blue.

Just type in the email (dont bother with the formatting of colors and stuff)
And hit enter.

And send...

That's exactly what I did to make this email link

Diane,

is there a way for me to send an email from my computer to one of your PCs? i did a test by doing as you describe above. i typed in an email address as well as a web address and sent to my wife's computer (PC). the web address link opens just fine; however, the email address doesn't open a new email message but attempts to create a URL link. somehow it's adding http: to the email address i type. that doesn't show up on my machine and when i click on it, it opens a new email.

First of all, what you need to understand is link handling is
determined, to a certain extent, by the recipient rather than
Entourage. Entourage doesn't help things with its poor HTML
composition, but you will get different results depending on to whom
you are sending the link.

As to your issue: is your wife using some kind of webmail?

Did you try prefacing the email address with mailto: ?
