Irrespective of wether you both do this for free or not you are nevertheless
representing your company, especially when you inform us in signature line of
your job positions in Microsoft. Your responses to what started out to be a
serious question and concern dent your company image and that is not good. If
Steve B. or other more senior MS managers found out about this I think they
would have something to say to you both. So let's call it a truce now.
Agreed? All I would like is that someone takes my query & points made in this
thread about lack of E-mail option in Home and Student version of Office 2007
back to the product manager so he/she can mull it over and perhaps consider
putting the function into next SR-1.

I believe you missed the bit of information identifying that NEITHER JoAnn
NOR Milly work for Microsoft.

Failure to read ALL of messages or to do a search of existing messages to
find out if the question/problem has already been addresses is what causes
about 90% of the messages on this and other boards.

Bob Buckland ?:-\)

Hi Nick,

In the survey's of the Student targeted population for the Home and Office edition my understanding is that it was found that there
was more of a requested/sensed need to have MS Office OneNote's functionallity added and available 'in the box' for that market than
there was for MS Office Outlook while still maintaining the same price point as the Office 2003 Student & Teacher product, and
actually removing the requirement to have a student in the home from the license.

In school and home environments, a number of folks have already established email accounts and web based email clients (whether
through their cable/DSL provider, or another online presence including as part of the MS Office free website hosting (
http://officelive.com ), through 3rd party email clients such as Firebird, or even with MS Outlook Express(WinXP) or Windows
Mail(Vista), often so they can check their email from almost any computer. In other words, many folks didn't like thinking they
were paying for Outlook when they wouldn't be using it :) Obviously that's not true for everyone.

Outlook 2007 is available as a separate purchase for folks who would like to add it.

Whether Windows Live mail client will be updated to allow it to hook to Office 2007 is a question that you may want to also post on
in the Windows Vista newsgroups to see if the folks there have any additional information. In Windows XP, Outlook Express, a MAPI
client does allow you to hook into Word and Excel, for example, to send email.

==================
I have a similar problem. E-mail option is greyed out in all products in Office Home and Student 2007. I can't send documents. The
e-mail client I am using is Windows Live mail desktop version. Can anyone help. <<

Thanks for this reply Bob. It gives me a better perspective on the decision
you made. I might be wrong but I'm sure that when I was trialling the Home &
Student Edition of Office 2007 (The 60 day free trial you offer) the Send
E-Mail option from the drop down button in top left hand corner of Word,
Excel etc was working. In my case I have Windows Live Mail desktop beta as
my e-mail client on my PC and I'm pretty sure an New e-mail opened up with
the document attached. It was after I paid for the product that I suddenly
found the option greyed out in Office 2007. So now I have to save the file
then go to Mail, start a new e-mail, attach the document and send the email
off. OK it's not such a big deal but it would be great if I could send
straight from the office product I'm working on via my Vista default mail
client.

Excuse my ignorance: I have almost the same question. I just bought MS
Office Home/Student 2007. I use Outlook Express for email, on a Win XP
system (brand new, I might add). Am I reading this right that the reason I
cannot use the send to email recipient option is that Outlook Express does
NOT integrate with Word 07? The way this came up is today trying to send a
family tree information sheet to a relative (clearly, personal use).

Am I reading this right that I cannot send email from within Word 07 but
must save, start OE, and attach the document to an email that way?

What if I bought Outlook (unlikely to occur, but what if). Would the email
option still be greyed out in Word 07???

Thank you.

I don't see how eliminating OE integration is a feature or plus or price
point issue (because

Hmmm...that works for me, I can switch between Outlook and Outlook Express.
Try this:

- Right-click the Quick Access Toolbar and click Customize Quick Access
Toolbar
- From the Choose Commands From list, select Commands Not In the Ribbon
- Locate Send For Review and add it to your QAT

Try using it instead of the Send to Mail Recipient - please let us know if
it works. :)

I didn't mention that I tried Beth Melton's possible fix. Although the Send
to Mail Recipient icon is active & an email form appears, when I press "send
message" on email form, Word "crashes". I tried this method 3 times with the
same result. Has this fix worked for anyone?

I have a similar problem and I called support and got the issue fixed. But I
have now loaded the software into another pc as my license permits me to. The
problem has now occurred in this pc. I would have thought that students would
require the email option so that they can email work back into school or to
their tutor as I would wish to do!!!! I know wish I had written down the
steps that I had to work through when I last got this problem sorted.

I had the exact same issue with Vista as my OS, Windows Mail and 2007 Student
Office.
I followed the thread until I found this one- it worked, wasn't complicated
and didn't ask me to do weird things I didn't understand
..
This fix worked.

1. Quit your Office programs, please click on the following link to download
the Messaging_registry.reg file to your desktop.

http://officetoolsdown.googlepages.com/Messaging_registry.reg

2. Double click on this Messaging_registry.Reg file to import the registry.
When you are asked whether you want to import the registry, click Yes.

3. Start Office programs like Word/Excel to check whether the E-mail icon is
useable.
