email icon in system tray but no new email

I keep getting the new email recieved icon in the system
tray but when checking my mailbox there is no new mail. I
am running Office 2002 sp3 on XP pro sp1.

Any ideas?

Do you have the rules wizard set to move specific
messages to other folders and mark them as read? If you
do then because you didn't actually open the message it
doesn't regester it as read to take away the icon in the
tray but it marks it as read in the folder.
