email in alerts

Hi,
Is there any way to send alert notification to external mail ids. What I
mean here is currently it only accepts emails in my organisation, is there a
way to send mail to external id say [email protected].

What do you mean when you say "it only accepts?" What is the *it* in this
case? You should also mention the software version you're using to give your
question proper context.
