Email miners and search engines bots

R

Ron O'Brien

I am building a website in FrontPage 2003. I am told there is code that can
be added to the headers that will:

1. Prevent email miners / harvesters from reaping email addresses that
appear in your pages

and

2. another bit of code to stop search engines storing certain pages on your
site

Can anyone advise on this (in very simple layman terms!!!)

Thanks

Ron

1. No such code.
2. Need to visit each search engine and read their FAQ / Webmaster info on what option you have to
block content from being indexed.

#1 Any text that appears on a webpage is fair game. Best
method is to not have them, and use a form that sends to a
custom server side script that will do the email. There are
supposed span free methods that break up an email address
and reassemble using javascript. IMHO it is only a matter of
time before the harvesters figure them out

#2 There are various methods of doing this, but no
guarantees as it is up to the search engine to listen to
your instructions. Methods include META tags for cache and
indexing, and the robots.txt file
