In other calendar/task type programs when you create an appointment/task you can have it email you at a specified amount of time before the appointment, or in the case of a task having the email serve as a reminder in your _mailbox_ that something is still pending.
Having an audible alert popup window is insufficient when you are out and about and not in front of your computer. I often have it email a reminder to my cell phone. Yahoo's calendar can do this, so can Mac programs. There must be an easy way to have email as an option in additioin to having an audible alert. Isn't there?
