email removed from server

After a hard drive reformat and reinstall of Outlook 2002 XP all emails were
deleted from the server and not in Outlook. Cable ISP says this is an
Outlook 2002 problem or possibly Norton thought they were spam. At any rate
I lost 4 months of emails. Are they stored anywhere on my computer? If so
how can I find and send them to Outlook? ISP expunged and not recoverable
from their end.

You're not making much sense to me here;

"After a hard drive reformat and reinstall of Outlook 2002 XP all emails
were deleted from the server and not in Outlook."
"I lost 4 months of emails."
No you didn't; they are in Outlook as you stated yourself.

"If so how can I find and send them to Outlook?"
Again, you contradict yourself; you stated that they were already in
Outlook.

You should not leave messages out of your control on the server. ISP have
limits and will delete old messages periodically. This was not an Outlook
problem. Look up Backup in Outlook help and save messages to removable media
and on your hard drive. All messages and everything else will be in your pst
file. If you saved that file before the reformat, use File, Open Outlook Data
File in Outlook to open the old pst file. You can use that file as your main
file or move what you want to the new personal file.

I got a virus in August. My computer tech person had my computer for four
months. He ended up having to reformat the hard drive. In the mean time I
left my emails on the server so I could get them when I got my computer back.
So they were never on my computer. I looked at the emails on the web site
during the four months.

I proceeded to reinstall all my software(backup info from August was copied
to hard drive) and set-up my email account in outlook. Sometime that day the
emails all disappeared.

Hope this clarified my situation. Thanks so much! I would really
appreciate any help!

Hi Mary,

My computer was in the shop for four months with a virus. They finally just
reformatted the hard drive and copied info from back-ups. In the interim I
left email on server so I could have it on my computer. Wednesday I was
reinstalling programs and setup my email account in outlook. The emails were
all on the server Tuesday and gone after the outlook iinstall and set-up.
So, none of the email was saved since August. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Makes more sense now indeed. Sounds to me that Outlook never even saw these
messages and that they got stuck somewhere in the Norton integration with
Outlook. When you have a mail scanning application in between Outlook and
your ISP it is that application that becomes responsible of correct delivery
of the items (and delete them afterwards). I don't know if Norton holds a
repository for mail that is retrieved from the server but not yet delivered
to the mail application. You might want to contact Norton support about
that.

anyway to retrieve my sent messages?? My business is out of the home and all
my sent messages are valuable reports that are ongoing. Any help would

Did you make a backup of your hard drive before reformatting? If not, you
will not be able to recover your emails. If you did, then the emails will be
located in a PST file located under c:\documents and settings\username\local
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook of your backup.

I was told to do a pc recovery with data retained, but when i go back to
system restore I can't go before the virus. It looks like all my data is
missing.
