email was not receiving, now can neither receive nor send

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

On Friday I suddenly was no longer able to receive emails thru Entourage but was able to send them. My IT guys are not very mac savvy so after a serach I found that you could empty the cache and that seemed to fix it this morning. Now, however, i can no longer either send or receive. When trying to send an email i got an error that said "HTTP error. The server could not fulfill the request" at the bottom is said Error:-18500.

Any suggestions for how to resolve this?
