email with attachement stick in outbox

Since a few days when I send a e-mail with an attachment, I get an error
(generally timeout on contacting the smtp serve), the email is sent but it
stays in the outbox.

I am using W2Kpro sp3, outlook XP.

Emails with small attachments (less than 50K) or no attachments work fine.

Can anyone help solving this problem?
