When trying to receive mail thru Outlook, I get error message stating that
server could not be found. Yet when using Outlook Express with the same
settings I have no problems.

What do your account properties show in Outlook when compared to Outlook
Express? (I only ask because some internet security products change Outlook
settings in order to do real-time scanning of e-mail. This in of itself can
cause issues for Outlook.)

account properties are exactly the same in both OE and Outlook. Outlook did
work when first installed, but then quit. Have reinstalled a couple of times.
Cleared PST file and reinstalled Outlook. Error states cannot find server and
server timed out.

Do you have any anti-virus or anti-spam software installed that integrates
with Outlook? If so, turn of the scanning to see if that's causing the
problem.

I am using McAfee anti-virus with firewall. Am now getting error with all
office programs, as if trying to install, stating I am missing a cab file
"Office Update 11/511735. I tried to restore to the last date that Outlook
was working, that brought me to this.

Try reinstalling the Office update that you tried to back out of. The
problem you were having with Outlook is not related to that, but to
something (probably McAfee) blocking Outlook's attempt to connect to your
server.

"I had similar connecting problems after installing Service Pack 2 - I
contacted Norton AntiVirus help line, they stated I should turn off the
outgoing scan email and leave incoming on. That helped, but still
occasionaly got the unable to find server", again if it was not my primary
ISP identity that I was working in (I do professional association management
from home office) but was accessing a different web server such as hotmail,
webmail, etc. I have several different Email identities to keep track of
polling my clients email service. I then talked with Norton again when it
repeated, they advised me to contact Microsoft. I did, they asked me to
"uninstall Service Pack 2" since Norton and SP2 had some incompatibility
issues. I did, now I no longer have the problem. However, since I am on
"notice for updates", I keep getting the notice that I need to update to
Service Pack 2. Go figure... Hope this helps.. JP

I would advise reinstalling SP2 and turning off all mail scanning by Norton
(which apparently involves uninstalling Norton and reinstalling without the
options, based on posts to this group). Turning off mail scanning will not
impact your safety, because Norton will prevent the execution of a virus
even if you receive one in email. Uninstalling SP2, however, has
uninstalled a number of important security fixes.
