Emails always arrive late

Hi all,

I have a problem with one of the users who is receiving
all his email messages 3 minutes to 30 minutes late. A
message sent to all users arrives instantly in all users
mailboxes except this person where the message takes a
long time to arrive.

This user has Windows XP and Outlook 2000 with almost all
the recent updates. No matter how many times he hits the
send/receive button, messages still arrive late. This user
has a mailbox on the server with about 500 MB of data.

I highly doubt that the problem is on his PC, and I
suspect something on the server. I have Windows 2000
Server and Exchange 2000 running the latest service packs.
No other users are facing this problem. Anyone knows what
could be the problem?

Thanks.

This generally means that the end users workstation is not receiving a UDP
data packet from the server. This packet travels on an arbitrary port >
1023. Since you mention Windows XP, is the built-in firewall or have the
recently applied SP2 for Windows XP?

Make sure to disable instant messaging in Tools -->
Options --> Other tab. I know this might sound useless
but we sometimes have the same problem in our company.
And just by disabling Messanger, such issues are
resolved. Worth a shot.
