Emails disappear when moved to a personal folder

Emails disappeard when we grouped them up and used the shortcut command to
move them to an existing personal folder. When we opened that personal
folder they were no there; we did a search within Outlook and there was no
evidence of these emails existing at all. What could have happened or what
might be some options to look for or retrieve these emails?
