Emails marked as read when not

One the employees at my company is having issues regarding emails marked as
read before he has read them. It is also not all of them. Emails sent
internally through our Exchange Server (2003) are not marked as read and are
bold in his inbox. Emails from outside our server are being marked as read
and he ends up missing some new ones.

Any ideas?

The usual cause of this is a scanner of some kind (antivirus or -spam are the
most ffrequent) wedges between Outlook and the server, but it can also be
caused by some handheld sync software. In any event, it's probably an add-in.
