Emails not being marked read

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Having a problem since installing Snow Leopard (which may be coincidental)as I have also installed the latest versions of Entourage 12.2.2. The problem is this. Emails read using the desktop client are not being marked read on my iPhone (I know this forum has nothing to do with that) but they also do not appear as marked read on the Exchange server browser client OWA. Any ideas on what may be causing this and what I can do to correct it. I have reset iPhones, network settings, rebooted the iPhone, and deleted and recreated the network account on the iPhone and recreated a new Entourage identity. Still nothing?

Are the messages getting marked as read in Entourage when read on your
iPhone or in OWA?

Bill,

Thanks for you reply. I mis-understood your question. I should have said:
1. If read on the client (Entourage) then the obviously are marked read there but not in OWA or the iPhone
2. If read on OWA or on the iPhone they are not marked read on the client, but they are marked read on each other (OWA is marked read if read on the iPhone and if read on the iPhone marked read in OWA.

The issue was the status of any message on the client was not updating exchange correctly.

What I have done and it seems to have worked is using the properties folder on the inbox, of Entourage and emptied the cache, Then I executed a "synchronize now" command from the same folder menu and that seems have cleared the problem.

This along with my calendar getting out of sync had to all have happended right when I updated Entourage to 12.2.0 and the OS to 10.6 not sure which one caused it but to coincidental. I fixed the calendar problem (which was more less the same as the email problem, stuff not showing on the client by creating a new identity but I am thinking the same resolution for the email might have worked.

Anyway for now problem appears to be solved, appreciate your advice.

Okay I lied, it's not working. I thought it was, went out of town but it's not. Same issue I read messages on the client (Office 2008) side and they are not updated in OWA as read.

When read in OWA they DO mark the client as read though, virtually instantly. Go figure?

So it appears that it is the read part on the client side that is not working or talking to Exchange (2003)

Thought it was solved but it's not. Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot would be appreciated.

Now I don't know.

Well I went to this page
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2009/09/hot_topics_using_office_for_mac_with_snow_leopard.html#more>

And followed these directions.

2) Check your Fonts. There appears to be a widespread issue with FontBook and font substitution in 10.6. Something having to do with the fact that Snow Leopard has moved to .ttf as the preferred font library format over .dfont.

Office 2008 does not need ANY of its fonts to "run." However, various features of Office 2008 will be broken or display poorly unless you leave the fonts it installs in place. It's OK to delete the ones replaced by newer ones installed by Apple.
Path to Microsoft Fonts: Microsoft installs Office 2008 fonts in a folder named "Microsoft" in the Library/Fonts folder. Your Office 2004 fonts could be in your User's Library/Fonts folder. For font locations see this page <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/bad_font.html#font_locations&gt <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/bad_font.html#font_locations&gt>; .
Apple updated some of their fonts for 10.6. These fonts are also installed in the Microsoft folder. The ones in the Microsoft folder are older and should be deleted.

And it appears to be working?????

I have no idea why?

Wow! That is strange. I've seen some strange behavior due to database
corruption, but the relationship between the fonts and marking as read is
one for the record book. <insert twilight zone music here>
