Entourage 2004- latest rev. For the past month of so- when I compose and send the email- it is just stuck in the outbox. Not every email - but 70% of the time. The progress bar never fills in- but the Progress bars is spinning. I have tried my outgoing port as 3535 or 80 - and still the problem. It happens with email tethered to Comcast, Go Daddy and Verizon- does not seem to be an internet server issue.
TIA

Are these setting in your account advanced sending option?

Try 2525 or 587.

FWIW, I see this occasionally, but nothing like what you are describing has
been reported that I can remember.

How full is your hard drive? What version of the OS?

I've had this same problem for some time, though maybe only 25% of time - sometimes as much as 70% of outgoing messages. Size of email doesn't seem to matter. I archived some of my entourage folders and that helped a little. It seems to happen more at home with a slower connection, so I also downloaded a new driver for my wireless router, which also helped some.

Most often turning off entourage and then restarting will empty the outbox. Other times if the email is not urgent I just forget about it and it leaves the outbox later as long as I close the error message.

Diane, Do I read you correctly; Go to entourage/account settings / dbl click on account, and then under sending email click on click here for advanced sending options. Where my setting now at [box] override DEFAULT smtp port: 80, I should try 2525 or 587? Giving this a shot and will report back if it helps.

Thanks, Charlie OSX 10.5.5 and entourage 2008 ver.; 12.1.4

Diane,
Substituting those numbers did not help. In fact entourage wouldn't send at all.

You need to get the port info from your ISP then.Thank you Diane. I was able to get ports from godaddy.com help. In doing so changed settings to SSL, which sounds like something I should have been using already. This seems to have solved the problem.

Diane --

I am having the same issue, only I am attached to an Exchange 2007 server (Entourage 2008). Outgoing emails hang up in the Outbox maybe one out of every 10 times, eventually timing out or giving an "unable to connect" message, even as other folders are syncing with the Exchange server.

Does this fix apply for Exchange server? If so, where would I enter the port changes?

Thank you.

I would discuss your problem with your IT. It sounds like Entourage is
timing out. It could be you have your schedule set in too short a cycle.
Some users have it set for less than 5 minutes. Try a longer setting and see
if that helps. If not, it could be a setting on the server that needs
changing. Entourage is notorious for connection problems that time out. They
would be able to tell you if you need to change the port settings.

I am using Entourage 2008 with OS X 10.5.5 and for some time have been experiencing the same difficulty with out going emails hanging up in Entourage. It seems to be worse after the application has been open a while without sending email. It could happen 60 percent of the time. I thought it was an Entourage problem until reading these posts. They prompted me to call my ISP, Go Daddy. They said generally what causes this problem is either incorrect settings within Entourage, not likely to cause problems that come and go, problems with the ISP, which he ruled out, or some type of settings within your virus protection software. Adjusting Norton seems to have made a difference for me.

Hi
I have a mail stuck in my out box and it is hanging Entourage (not responding just get spinning disk), had this problem before and was told that I need to stop Entourage sending and receiving mail on start up, do you know the short cut keys to do this ? as I have forgotten them.

Many thanks

Hold Shift key down. Something if you open the email it will send directly
from clicking on Send. Other times you need to copy and paste into a new
message.
