embed mp3 songs in my web page

I am building a web site with Publisher and linking mp3's on my computer. I
think I need to embed them. I tried embedding as file but that doesn't work.

Uploading the media file and linking to it is correct.
If your intention though it to provide streaming media then speak to your
web host about their options for streaming media and embedding media players.
