Embedded Excel spreadsheet "disappeared" in Word 2007

Hi,

For years, I’ve been working with an Excel spreadsheet embedded in Word,
with no problems, until now. Suddenly it has become impossible to see (and
use) this embedded sheet in Word. Instead, there is this reference:
{ EMBED Excel.Sheet.8 }

Same thing happens with hyperlinks: an e-mail address suddenly looks like
this:
{ HYPERLINK "mailto:[email protected]" }

Automatic page numbers are also gone.

Unders VIEWS>"Full screen reading " everything is still visible, but in all
other views that DO allow processing (Print Layout View, Web Layout, Outline
View, Draft View), I get these strange looking references.
Converted to pdf, everything’s visible again, but that’s of no use to me.

Info: I use Word 2007 under Windows 7.
I have already removed and reinstalled Office Small Business 2007, but to no
effect.

Can anybody tell me what’s going on ?
