Embedded graphics sometimes not printed

In a document (using Word 2002) with many embedded graphics, some images are
printed as placeholders rather than images, although they all appear fine
onscreen. I find that most of the time I can reprint an individual affected
page and the graphic will print, but even this is not always the case. All
these images are definitely embedded. I am not yet positive that the same
images are always affected, but I suspect that it is rather random.

I've replicated the problem with two different printers (and their drivers):
a LaserJet 4 Si and a very new Sharp whose model number I don't have at hand.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting this will be very appreciated!

Hi, Larry. Try turning off background printing in Word and print spooling in
Windows... does the problem persist?

Excellent suggestions, but no help. But at least now I know WHY.
MY Word doc is being published (generated) by AuthorIT, which had been
working fine until yesterday. All my graphics are embedded. Apparently, for
some unknown reason, AuthorIT has been making some of them linked rather than
embedding them in my published output. Yesterday it was some; today it seems
to be all of them. But the problem is apparently not a Word issue after all,
because I can see that all the "missing" items' field codes now indicate that
they are linked rather than embedded, as they had always been.

Thanks for your response and help, though.
