Embedded objects not showing up

Embedded objects in a newsletter are not showing up on recipient
e-mails. The code for the image is:
"cid:[email protected]"
Does the cid need to be out of the quotes?
Why would the objects not be showing up?
How do I make embedded objects truly be embedded and not show as links?
