Embedded product name in Office products - Standalone Licenses

K

Hello,

I'm working in Software Asset Management, and i have a question about
office. In the office professional or standard installations, all office
components, such as excel or word, have "Microsoft Office 2003" as embedded
product names. I believe this is due to the fact that the license is for
Office, and not for the particular part.
I became aware of the possibility to buy just Excel. My question is, if
you buy the standalone product, what does the embedded product name say?

Thank you very much!

Well, I did the closest thing I could to check on this. I have Office 2003
installed on my computer. Publisher calls it Microsoft Office Publisher
2003. I also have Publisher 2002 and 2000 installed on my computer as stand
alone programs. Both read Microsoft Publisher <version>. I also have OneNote
and Visio installed on my system. They were not part of the Office Pro 2003
installation - they are separate and yet they both say Microsoft Office...
They are part of a different Office edition.

All this really tells me is that they could have changed the embedded name
of the product with this version.

In Belarc Advisor it seems to see them separately

Microsoft - Office Access 2003
Microsoft - Office FrontPage 2003
Microsoft - Office Standard Edition 2003
Microsoft - Publisher 2000

Obviously I deleted my keys. I just upgraded Office STE 2003 with
Access 2003 and it shows up separately...also running old Pub.

Dunno if that helps or not.
