embedding contact information into excel spreadsheets

I would like to be able to use a Main Contacts list shared by others to
generate partial phones lists that we distribute to volunteers. However,
when we need to change a phone number, we don't want to do it in main
contacts AND any list generated. Is there a way to change the phone number
once in contacts and have it change the number in exported lists?
