Emoticon Graphics

I am trying to receive an email from somebody that has the little emoticon
graphics inside it, but when I get the email, it only has blank spaces for
the emoticons. I turned off all the options under
Tools...Options...Security...Change Automatic Download Settings, and thought
I would get the graphics. Any idea why these don't come through?

Hard to say without any details. My guess is that the images were improperly
added. There is no need to change those security settings. In fact, doing so
is not recommended. When images are blocked you'll be notified by an
information bar at the top of the message.

Emoticons are NOT graphics. They are sequences of text characters, like
;-> for a whink with a evil grin.

Read:

If they are shown as graphic symbols then your application does that.
You never mention WHICH version of Outlook that you use, and if you use
Word as your e-mail viewer or not.
