Empty "Deleted Items" Folder

In Outlook 2007 when I try 'Empty "Deleted Items" Folder' I receive a dialog
box that says "The folder is full"and the resuest is not processed.

If I select all the items in the Deleted Items folder I can delete them.

I assume that some Outlook 2007 work file needs to be reset or deleted to
clear this problem.

Does anyone have a solution?

I did the scan as suggested following discovering my problem.

The .pst file (while of the 2003 variety) needed repairs. Once scanned and
fixed, all deletions are excepted.
