Enable the system tray icon for language selection - How to?

R

Richard L

Hi All,

I'm running Win2000. When I had Office 2000 running on this system, I had
a language button in my SysTray that allowed me to type in German or English
as I chose. After I upgraded to Office 2003 and used that button for the
first time, the button disappeared and I got a "Language Bar" containing
that button and miscellaneous other stuff.

The good news is:
1. Using Start | Control Panel | Text Services, I was able to defeat the
display of the Language Bar.
2. Text services allows me to use Left-Alt plus Shift to switch between
languages.

The bad news is:
1. I have no visible indication of the language state, though I can simply
type any affected key.
2. I simply like having the language button in the tray.

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] advised "You need to open the Language Bar and
go to the settings option and turn off the language bar and enable the
system tray icon." The first half of that statement was correct. The
second half wasn't. I replied to her post announcing that there was no
mechanism to enable the system tray icon, but she hasn't responded to that.
Perhaps she's on vacation.

Does anyone else know how to enable the system tray icon?

TIA,
Richard

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

Yes, I have been busy with other matters (this is volunteer work when I get
the chance) and I don't always monitor the Office groups since Outlook is my
specialty.

For the problem of the button with the language symbol, let me check a few
things and get back to you.

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

Back again - seems that my search is turning up nothing for Office 2003,
only Office XP.

Perhaps someone else can confirm that the blue icon with the language
abbreviation has been removed from Office 2003?

|| Hi All,
||
|| I'm running Win2000. When I had Office 2000 running on this system,
|| I had a language button in my SysTray that allowed me to type in
|| German or English as I chose. After I upgraded to Office 2003 and
|| used that button for the first time, the button disappeared and I
|| got a "Language Bar" containing that button and miscellaneous other
|| stuff.
||
|| The good news is:
|| 1. Using Start | Control Panel | Text Services, I was able to
|| defeat the display of the Language Bar.
|| 2. Text services allows me to use Left-Alt plus Shift to switch
|| between languages.
||
|| The bad news is:
|| 1. I have no visible indication of the language state, though I can
|| simply type any affected key.
|| 2. I simply like having the language button in the tray.
||
|| Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] advised "You need to open the Language
|| Bar and go to the settings option and turn off the language bar and
|| enable the system tray icon." The first half of that statement was
|| correct. The second half wasn't. I replied to her post announcing
|| that there was no mechanism to enable the system tray icon, but she
|| hasn't responded to that. Perhaps she's on vacation.
||
|| Does anyone else know how to enable the system tray icon?
||
|| TIA,
