Enabling email/hyperlinks in protected document - please help

S

SILVRSRFR

I'm creating a form to send to my clients. At the top is a text box
with my "letterhead", including an email address and website that I
have activated as hyperlinks. The text box is NOT in the header,
because I like how the the colors show up more when it is actually part
of the document. Underneath the text box, I created a continuous
section break. Following the break are a number of questions and form
fields for my clients. Then another continuous section breaks. So
there are three sections: the text box with my letterhead, the form,
and white space after the form.

I then go to "Protect" and then select "Section 2" (but not 1 or 3).
Now, as I understand it, the email and web hyperlinks in the text box
in Section 1 should still be active. But they're not. In fact, the
whole text box is protected. I can't make any changes at all. Which
leads me to believe that it's actually in Section 2, not 1 as I had
intended.

I've been at this for THREE HOURS now with no results. I've searched
the newsgroup here in vain. I seem to be doing what has been
suggested, but it's not working. Can someone please help? I'd be
happy to send the document to you if that is helpful.
Thank you in advance,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I haven't tried this before but I think the problem is that the text box is
"floating" (in the drawing layer of the document) so that it is not actually
IN Section 1, even though that's where it appears to be.

Try this: Unprotect the document. While in Page Layout view, turn on
Show/Hide formatting so you can see paragraph marks. Be sure the Text Box
is situated where you want it on the page and be sure you have at least one
paragraph mark in Section 1.

Select the Text Box and convert it to a Frame (Format> Text Box> Text Box>
Convert to Frame). The resulting frame will be anchored to the nearest
paragraph mark. You should actually see the anchor icon in the left margin.
If the frame happens to be anchored in the wrong section, move the anchor
icon so it's next to the paragraph mark in Section 1.

Now protect just Section 2 of the document again and you should be good to
go. At least it worked for me :).
