Encrypting Word file in Office 2007 Home and Student Edition

I have followed the posts here on encrypting my Word document but it never
password protects it. Is this not an option in the Office 2007 Home &
Student Edition that is not available? Am running a Dell XPS M1530 w/Vista .
I have tried it in both Word and Excel with NO LUCK... any one else??

After reading the following link
http://forums.techarena.in/ms-office-support/973690.htm I have figured out
that I can save a file in either Excel or Word in the OLD format, but not in
the new .docx/xlmx Any suggestions to solve the problem? Appears to me that
the new format has some glitches.
