Encryption software

I am looking for software to encrypt (mainly excel) files. This is to keep
away prying eyes rather than international spies so it doesn't need to be
particularly strong. Something free / Open Source would be particularly
attractive.

I should appreciate recommendations from users of such software.

Thanks.

If it's just one file, how about just applying a password when you do
File|SaveAs?

Thanks Dave. It is more than one file. Password protection is VERY easy to
crack and, therefore, I was looking for something that potentially gave
somewhat more protection.

I don't think you'll find a way in excel to do this.

Maybe you could post in a Windows newsgroup???

File open password protection in Excel 2003 and 2007 is pretty tough to
crack.
You should be able to find some snippets of VBA to run a list doing this.

Or you could look at EFS (Encrypting File System) in Win XP.

Wondering

You might want to encrypt your files if you're using Excel 2007. Office
Button/Prepare/Encrypt Document. Select a strong password. The files can be
opened only by Excel 2007 and not any earlier version. Just make sure you
don't forget your password!!
