Endnotes and Section breaks

Working in Word 2007 in XP. I have a document with endnotes at each section.
I have inserted Section Breaks (next page) at the end of each section. But
the endnotes continue to land and the end of the document. What am I doing
wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hi Yvonne

Endnotes usually default to the end of a document; have you tried the
footnotes option instead?

I don't really want Footnotes since those are inserted at the end of the page
instead of the sections. But I did try converting to footnotes just to see
what would happen. The footnotes stayed at the end of the document too!

I've done prior documents with the endnotes landing at the end of the
section using section breaks. But it isn't working with this doc.

Thanks for trying Paula.

Hi Yvonne

Have you changed the default placement for endnotes? On the ribbon there is
a dialogue box, click the Footnotes header in that group, and change the
placement from end of document to end of section; if you've already tried
this please let me know...

Yes. It is set for "end of section". Weird, eh?

Gaaaah!!!! Do you know how to update fields? If not, try selecting the entire
document and hitting F9, see if that works; again, if it doesn't please let
me know...

Yvonne, could you try starting a blank document, put in three sections and
three separate endnotes and tell me what happens? Making sure that the
settings for the endnotes are as you want them, etc...

Hurray! I've discovered that it was idiot user problems, not Word problems.
Been messing with this too long. It was the "end of section / end of
document" function and I was just reading it wrong - duh.

Thanks for your help Paula!!

In each section where the endnotes are *not* appearing, go to Page Setup |
Layout and make sure "Suppress endnotes" is not checked.
