enhanced metafile pictures disappearing

This seems to be a problem with documents created in Word 2003 and opened in
Word 2000. Graphics cannot be seen on the screen or printed.

Pictures are put in with "In line with text."

Any ideas? Is the best way to get figures into the document by means of
enhanced metafiles?

Do you have "Drawings" checked on the View tab of Tools | Options? "Drawing
objects" checked on the Print tab?
