enter arguments for a message call in UML sequence diagram

I need help about some questions in Visio concerning UML sequence diagrams.
As you know, in sequence diagrams, one can create a message(function) call
and provide arguments in the function.

I tried adding arguments for a message call in the diagram by double
clicking the arrow, but the arguments tab is greyed out! I can add arguments
in the name itself, but does anyone know why the arguments tab is greyed out
and how arguments can be added? Also, the Stereotype dropdown , Operation
dropdown and the New button (next to Operation meant for adding a new
operation) are also greyed out and inactive! What is the reason for this and
how can I add a new operation?

I'd appreciate it if someone can help me with this issue.

Thank you very much,
Srii

You can only add arguments to the message if the operation being called in
the message has parameters.
