Enter (return) seems to be disabled

This may seem daft, but that happened to me once with a
different key. Even though it only happened in Office
programs, swapping the keyboard did the trick for me !

My enter key on my keyboard will not work while in "word".

It works in other applications but will not work on the
numeric keyboard or the "return" key. Has it been disabled
