Entering field without a leading carriage return

Hi,

Is there a way I can enter a field from Excel into Word without Word adding
a leading carriage return?

For example, if my Excel spreadsheet looks like:

VAR1 VAR2
foo bar

I want to enter the text in Word as:

foo <space space space etc> bar

Instead, Word displays:

<CR>
foo <space space space etc><CR>
bar

I can't get rid of the leading CR before an Excel field.

Bummer...
