MSPS07 Project Pro: Mandatory Resource Enterprise Field Code for the field
ResourceSkill: [Manager, Programmer, Tester...]. Default value = programmer.

I mapped this field to the wrong lookup table so I had to delete the Filed
code and create it again with the correct lookup table. Default value was
set to 'programmer'.

** The existing users' 'ResourceSkill' field was set to 'programmer' in
PWA's Resource Center's , 'Bulk Edit'. **

I closed Project Pro and open it up again to flush the enterpise global from
Project Pro 07.

ISSUE \ SYMPTOM
===============
When I try to save the Enterprise pool (Project Pro), I get an error that it
needs an entry for the ResourceSkill

Field. Despite setting the 'ResourceSkill' field with 'Bulk Edit' (verified
that the field was populated by looking

at users individually with 'manage users'), for some reason project pro
thinks the fields are empty. The odd part

is that the drop down box is empty when I try to populate.

I guess for now, I will have to make the field non-mandatory and move on.

Questions

Why does Project Pro think 'ResouceSkill field is empty?

I created a new field call 'TestResourceSkill' to replace the problematic
field and deleted the old field. It seems to work now. Not elegant, but
hopefully effective.

If it is any comfort to you, I have had nearly the same problem as you.
Custom enterprise Resource fields with Lookup Tables do not always how their
values when you check out the resources in Microsoft Project Professional.
The problem seems intermittent and the best I can speculate is that this is
a bug in Project Server 2007. Your approach of making the field not
Required is sensible in light of the consequences. Hope this helps.

Ray,

There seems to be an issue with updating/changing Enterprise Custom Fields
in PWA and the values being represented in Project Professional. I heard
that this can be caused by the Active Cache Project Pro is using. We had
similar issues with project (not resource) custom fields, but I think the
problems likely have the same cause.

To work-around that problem, we ended up deleting the Project Professional
cache files from the local hard drive. If you navigate to 'C:\Documents and
Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\MS Project\Cache\' you can
delete all the GUIDs displayed as subfolders. They contain several files,
e.g. global.mpc. Make sure that Project Pro is not running while you're
trying to delete the folders.

Hope this helps...
