Enterprise Reporting

Allan

Hello,

I created a project with proposed work for the year. For planning purposes I
created an enterprise project status field "Closed", and would like to report
on available resources in projects that are not "Closed". I went through all
the projects and "Closed" them through the project information tab. The
problem I am having is that this custom field does not show up when I create
reports. Does anyone know how I can access this enterprise project field for
reporting on resources that are not in "Closed" projects?

Thanks,

In the future, please tell us what version of Project Server you are using.
2002, 2003, or 2007? If you are using 2003, you must use a custom
enterprise Project outline code field. You cannot use a field containing a
value list. If you are using Project Server 2007, you must add the custom
field to the Project cube on the Cube Configuration page in PWA. Hope this
helps.

Dale,

I am using Project Server 2003. The field I created is a custom enterprise
Project outline code field at the project level with values "Open" and
"Closed". I can't find a resource report that shows the custom field.
According to your reply the custom field cannot contain a value list like
"Open" and "Closed". Is this correct? Is there another way I can "close"
projects and only report on "Open" projects?

Thanks,
Allan

You cannot see the custom field in Resource views because it contains
Project data. Instead, you would need to create a Portfolio Analyzer view
for this purpose. In your custom View, add the following Total Fields and
Dimensions as follows:

Add your custom enterprise Project outline code to the Filter Fields
drop area
Add the Project and Resource dimensions to the Row Fields drop area
Add the Work field to the Total Fields drop are (if desired)
Add the Time dimension to the Column fields drop area (if desired)

After doing this, click the pick list for the custom enterprise Project
outline code and select the option to show "Open" projects only. Add the
new Portfolio Analyzer view to the My Organization category and optionally
to the My Projects category and then save it. When you access this View, I
believe this will filter the information you want to see. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I went in to access the Project
Analyzer but got this message: "Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project
Portfolio Analyzer OLAP cube. Possible Cause : No OLAP cube has been
specified." Could you tell me what I need to install or setup to access this
view?

Thank you...
